Gan Cao (Zhi), or honey-fried liquorice root, is one of the most widely used herbs in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Traditionally regarded as sweet in taste and neutral in temperature, it is known as a harmonising agent, often used to moderate or guide the actions of other herbs in a formula.
This processed form, “Zhi” Gan Cao, is prepared by stir-frying with honey—a traditional method believed to enhance its tonifying and moistening properties, especially when included in formulas supporting the Lung and Spleen meridians.
Our liquorice root is harvested from its native growing regions, dried naturally without sulphur treatment, and tested for authenticity, purity, and safety. Every batch meets stringent GMP and EU standards and includes full traceability and Certificates of Analysis.
