Description

Gu Ya (Chao) – 谷芽(炒)

Latin name: Oryza sativa (processed sprout)
Common name: Dry-fried Millet / Sprout
Part used: Germinated Grain (Sprout)
Traditional meridian affiliation: Spleen, Stomach

Gu Ya Chao (炒谷芽) is the dry-fried form of the sprouted grain of rice (or millet in some traditions). This processing slightly warms and enhances its function of aiding digestion while moderating its dispersing nature. In TCM it is classed among the “herbs that relieve food stagnation.”

Its main actions are:

  • Reducing food stagnation and promoting digestion

  • Strengthening the Spleen and harmonising the Middle Jiao

  • Opening the Stomach, aiding appetite

Because of its moderate nature, Gu Ya Chao is often used in patterns of mild food stagnation—especially after overindulgence in starchy foods—without injuring the Qi.

Phoenix Medical’s Gu Ya Chao is cultivated under DaoDi principles in its classic regions. It is grown without synthetic herbicides or pesticides, dried without sulphur, and processed via careful, controlled dry-frying (炒). All processing occurs in GMP-certified facilities. Each batch is fully traceable and rigorously tested to meet EU and UK standards of purity, safety, and potency
