Huang Lian (黄连) is one of the most potent heat-clearing and detoxifying herbs in TCM. Its flavour is extremely bitter and its nature is very cold. Its principal actions include clearing Heat and eliminating Fire, drying dampness, purging fire, and resolving toxicity.
