Common name: Thorowax Root (vinegar‐processed)

Chai Hu (Cu) refers to the root of Bupleurum chinense that has been processed with vinegar (醋). In traditional Chinese theory it is associated with the Gallbladder, Liver, Pericardium, and San Jiao meridians. Historically it is included in classical formulations emphasising soothing Liver Qi, easing feelings of constraint, lifting and harmonising in the upward direction, especially under conditions of Liver stagnation or when regulation of ascending Yang is part of the pattern.
